FAQs

Your questions answered...

Does my business need an energy audit?

If you have over 250 members of staff, or. A turnover of over 50 million Euros (£44.1m) or an annual balance sheet of over 43 million Euros (£37.9m) You are an overseas organisation with over 250 employees in the UK, then you will have to have an ESOS, this is for compliance. Not all UK businesses have to have one completed, however this may change and therefore is a very good idea to assess what your carbon footprint is and how to reduce it, before the UK government start penalising you for not being proactive.

How much does an energy audit cost?

The price of an energy audit can vary massively, and it depends on several factors. Size of the business, how big is the property, normally in square meters, how much external land, energy & water consumption, standard of audit, valid EPC & DECs, if needed. The question should be, is the company offering a relevant service to the correct high standard. Always ask for example reports and references. Lowest charge £500, highest £12,500.

What happens if my business doesn’t have an energy audit?

You won’t have expert advice on what the best options are. You may end up choosing an option to reduce carbon and save money that someone who simply just sells that solution has offered and works out to be a low priority option. You won’t get accepted for any grants and credits & worse still you may get penalised by the Government for not being proactive. Energy audits are always the best choice.

What happens if I’ve had an energy audit done already, what do I do with it?

If the energy audit is in date & valid, you can use the audit to have a carbon & energy reduction strategy written for the business, apply for grants and simply organise the highest priority renewable and energy efficient solution surveys, through accredited Focus Green partners that are can help and advise.

How often do I need to have an energy audit?

If to the correct standard they should be valid for 5 years, however basic lazy surveys sometimes aren’t valid for long. Focus Green offer a range of high standard audits and are valid for 5 years and are used towards applications for grants and credits.

What else are energy audits called?

There are several names for energy audits & they include, energy assessments, energy consumption validations, carbon reduction surveys, feasibility studies, energy audit programs, energy efficiency surveys, and many more. Please remember that the compliance versions are called ESOS & SECRs.

Why do I need to an anergy audit?

You need an energy audit so you can then work out what you can do as a business to become more carbon and energy efficient and mitigate the rising costs of energy. An energy audit of the correct standard will help eliminate any wasted effort in areas that don’t help as well as the areas that will reduce carbon & save money. Energy audits can be used towards applying for grants.

What does an energy audit cover?

Energy audits include taking live consumption data, plans of buildings and external areas that are relevant as well as images of all areas that can be investigated. HVAC, fabric first, air conditioning, all UK relevant carbon & energy efficient and renewable solutions will be covered and a full feasibility study for all relevant options are included. We have recently added a billing validation and broker miss-selling checks.
